Organic Teas for Autumn

Autumn is approaching! Beat the cold by warming up with organic tea. Not only are organic teas tasty, but they also have a multitude of health benefits. Yerba Mate and Bourbon Vanilla are two of our favorite organic teas–here’s why:

small yerba mate

Our Yerba Mate tea is a traditional South American tea that is packed with health benefits–it contains 24 different minerals and vitamins, 15 amino acids, and a profusion of antioxidants. In addition, studies suggest that Yerba Mate tea aids in lowering cholesterol. Yerba Mate has a pure herbal and vegetal taste. Try pairing this earthy tea with some crisp apples or pears.

bourbon vanilla small

Bourbon Vanilla is a sweet and full-bodied flavored black tea that is also rife with health benefits. Medical studies have shown that black tea might inhibit cancer growth, helps save arteries, and fights viruses. Black tea is also rich with antioxidants and Vitamin B1. We added pieces of bourbon vanilla from Madagascar to give this black tea a savory boost. This tea is a wonderful pair with dessert.

Tea Retreat

During the heatwave that struck the city last week, we decided to retreat from the bustling world into our air-conditioned homes. In doing so, we picked up a novel by Charlotte Bronte called Jane Eyre.

Her story takes place during England’s Victorian Era, a time when afternoon tea became extremely popular. We started thinking of what some of the characters may have had when given our selection of teas.

We were able to think of two:

We’ve imagined that Jane, passionate and obedient heroine of the story, would have Honeybush Bounce. It has her subtlety and sweetness mixed in one. It also has that earthiness that would seem to fit Mr. Rochester descriptions of her that are all very idealistic.

On the other hand, Mr. Edward Rochester could possibly pick Soho Chai- something a bit strong with an interesting twist of vanilla. It’s spices and fullness makes it irresistible to leave or to forget after one cup.

Oh and by the way, we decided to brew the tea hot despite the weather all thanks to our trusty air-conditioner!

What better way to spend a summer day than to read a book and to sip some cold brewed tea? Today, our book of choice is Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and you can only guess what scene attracted our attention. The Mad Hatter’s tea party made us speculate as to what was served during such an occasion.

Here are a couple of tea selections and tea-inspired snacks that we thought they had on their table:

And of course, warm weather like this calls for cold brewed teas, which I’m sure they would have if their tea party happened during this kind of hot weather.

What do you suppose they were having?

Sanctuary T Loose Leaf Tea Blends- Spring time loose leaf blends

We’re excited to shed our heavy coats and sweaters, and to sport our sandals and short sleeve t-shirts! So that’s exactly what we’re doing: enjoying the warm weather!

Our favorite tea to drink while basking in the new found sunlight and listening to birds chirps is our Spring Harvest blend. It’s no big surprise that this is our favorite spring time tea since the leaves are bursting with a passion fruit flavor reminiscent of blooming buds. The unique blend of green tea and white tea leaves also make for a very refreshing and clean steep that will make you feel like you’ve stepped outside into a sun patch.

We love adding a dash of honey to the steep and then icing it! (Not sure how to brew a perfect up of iced tea, then check out this post).  If you are feeling a bit more adventurous try making a stronger brew and adding chilled apple juice into the tea to make a lovely juice & iced tea cooler!
