Power Ingredients

First, a run down of the ingredients we'll be playing with and how they help your skin:

To Make Shaving Oil For Face or Body

If you've decided to make a shaving oil, your base will be coconut oil and from the list of teas, select the one(s) that suit your recipient best. In a small saucepan, combine 2 tablespoons of your selected teas and 1 1/2 cups of coconut oil. Put on the lowest possible heat and let "steep" for 10 minutes.

Once your mixture has heated, you may choose to strain through mesh strainer if this is going to be applied to the face, or leave the tea as an exfoliant if this is going to be used on the body. I recommend adding 5 drops or so of tea tree oil to the mixture but this is not essential.

Pour into an heremes jar or pump bottle

and label, along with the date that you made it. This shaving oil will not cause harm if left to sit, but it may lose its potency so we we recommend using it within one month.

How to use: scoop a tablespoon full into your fingers and massage onto warm, damp skin. After shaving, gently wipe face with a warm wet washcloth to remove excess oil.

To Make Face Wash

For a face wash base, we recommend as a base all honey, or 2 parts honey to 1 part olive or coconut oil, depending on the needs of your recipient. Select the tea(s) that you think would be best suited to your recipient. We recommend that you always include 1 tablespoon matcha powder, in addition to whatever other teas you choose.

To make this infusion, start with a mason jar or other 8 ounce container (not plastic, with a lid). Add the one tablespoon of matcha powder and 2 tablespoons of any other tea(s) that you choose. If you are following our recommendation to add only honey, then add 1 1/2 cups honey. If you have decided to use honey and oil, next add the oil and finally the honey on top in the mason jar. Stir as much as possible, often a chopstick works best.

Without heat, a full extraction of the leaf properties into the honey mixture will take approximately 2 weeks. So if you are gifting the face wash right away, we do not recommend straining.

This infusion is beautiful in a mason jar, but you could also use an heremes jar. Label and mark the date. By using dry ingredients, this face wash has a long shelf life, and perhaps the longer the better when not strained, as the tea continues to steep into the h

We do not recommend adding any essential oils (unless 2-3 drops tea tree oil for very acne prone skin). Essential oils are quite strong and could cause redness when used on the face.

How to use: scoop a teaspoon full onto a warm wet washcloth and gently massage onto face using circular motions. Rinse with warm water.

To Make a Body Scrub

In a jar, combine 3/4 cups sugar with 1/4 cup of either coconut oil or olive oil (or a combination). Add in 1 tablespoon of whichever tea(s) would suit your recipient. The body scrub is a great place to experiment with essential oils for fragrance or function, or the

addition of dried rose petals, or other botanicals to add beauty. Do be mindful though that too many additions can require that the recipient drain the tub!

Choose an airtight container to store it in, label and date it. This product also does not have a shelf life.

How to use: during the shower, scoop and apply gently to your skin, rub and rinse.

When you can't find the perfect gift- or if you are need of a little winter pick-me-up, you can perk up your day and enliven your skin with these simple recipes. The best part- these recipes are quick and easy to assemble!
